Do your soaps/Shampoo Bars contain lye?
I use Sodium Hydroxide (Lye) in all my soaps and shampoo bars, however there is no lye in the finished product. Without lye there would be no soap. The oils used to make the soap would remain just oils. The chemical reaction that occurs during saponification uses up all the lye. What's left is soap and glycerin molecules.
Do your soaps/Shampoo Bars contain animal products?
Most of my soaps and shampoo bars are vegetarian.
There are a few soaps that contain tallow or lard. If you would like one of these soaps in a vegetarian version please let me know. All my soaps and shampoo bars have a profile page which contains a list of all ingredients used. The ingredients are also listed on the information card that comes with each soap or shampoo bar. Please read the ingredients carefully to make sure you are not allergic to any of them or they are contraindicated due to a medical condition.
How long do your soaps/Shampoo bars last?
Each bar lasts about 4 weeks with daily use, however it also depends on how many people are using it and how frequently it is used during the day. It will also depend on how it is stored. You should allow the soap/shamoo bar to dry out between uses and use a slotted soap dish to allow the water to drain away.
Are your soaps safe for sensitive skin or skin conditions?
People who have sensitive skin or skin conditions often find an improvement in their skin once they start using handmade soaps because they don't contain harsh chemicals, detergents or additives that strip your skin of it's natural moisture. The combination of oils and butters work to gently moisturize and clean, leaving your skin soft. I have a number of gentle unscented as well as scented soaps in the Sensitive Skin Collection.
How long does it take for your soaps/Shampoo Bars to be ready for use?
It takes about 6 - 8 weeks from start to finish for the soap or shampoo bar to be ready for use. This ensures that enough water has evaporated to make a hard long lasting bar.
DO YOU TRIM YOUR SOAPS/Shampoo Bars?
No I don't. I like the natural, rustic look of the bars as they are. These are handcrafted soaps/shampoo bars and I think they should look like that. This means none of the soap is lost either, you are getting the whole bar.
Why are handmade soaps/Shampoo bars more expensive than commercial made soaps?
Commercially made soaps contain chemicals, detergents, additives, artificial dyes and animal based fats that are much cheaper than the higher grade oils and butters used in handmade soaps. Commercial soaps are massed produced in large factories in less than ideal conditions. Manufacturers of commercial soaps remove the glycerin and sell it to other companies. This makes the final soap product harsher and more drying on your skin.
Glycerin is a by-product of the saponification process and produces a gentler more PH balanced product.
Handmade soaps/shampoo bars are made in smaller batches using quality natural ingredients and Essential Oils. It's all about quality, not quantity and taking the time and care to make a final product that you can be proud of and that will keep your customers coming back.
Soap makers who commit to making natural soaps do so because they care about health and the environment, not only about making money.
do your lip balms contain petroleum by-products?
No, my lip balms are made with oils, butters, beeswax and either essential oils or flavoured oils. All these ingredients nourish and protect your lips. Castor oil is in all the lip balms as it give a lovely sheen to your lips.
How do you package your products?
I try to be as environmentally friendly as I can with my packaging. My soaps and shampoo bars are packaged in re-useable material bags with card stock labels. The lip balms are in small hard plastic pots which can also be re-used.
Which countries do you ship to?
Currently I ship to Canada. I ship by Canada Post Expedited and provide a tracking number.
